The Waste Group is the owner and operator of two private landfill facilities in Gauteng. These sites at Bon Accord North of Pretoria and Mooiplaats between Pretoria and Johannesburg handle in excess of 24 000 tonnes of waste per month.
The company also responsibly manages almost a dozen third party landfill sites nationally. As dedicated environmental steward, we ensure that all these facilities are managed in compliance with local and national regulations.
Our landfill division specializes in the efficient management, construction and rehabilitation of landfill sites. In keeping with our vision of Managing Waste for a Friendlier Environment, we utilise the latest technology to ensure that sanitary landfills operate as safe and efficient final destinations for the bulk of society’s waste.
The Waste Group has always realised the necessity for landfill sites in their areas of operation. The company bought and developed two landfill sites in Gauteng, namely the Bon Accord site north of Pretoria as well as the Mooiplaats Landfill Site between Pretoria and Johannesburg.
Adjacent to the 30 hectares currently used at Mooiplaats, some 166 hectares are being developed into what is known as The Waste Group City. The aim of the development is increasing the lifespan of the landfill site to approximately 55 more years at 50 000 tonnes per month.
The Waste Group can either advise on and manage leachate for clients on-site or treat it off-site. We can test and monitor boreholes and leachate ponds as well as analyse and report on applicable data.
We can remediate and re-engineer any existing landfill facility that does not comply with the minimum operational standards. Our experienced team has dealt with numerous clean-ups, bringing landfill sites back to a manageable state or ready for closure.
We provide tailor-made solutions for weighbridge management, ranging from the installation and long term rental of weighbridges to daily administrative management. State of the art systems and software allow us to record and supply a bulk of data to clients.
The Waste Group has the expertise and experience to manage any type of landfill on behalf of clients countrywide. This includes land rehabilitation and the implementation and management of administrative procedures, operational controls and regulatory compliance to ensure that every facility operates at maximum levels of safety and efficiency.
The Waste Group has the experience and resources to construct any type of landfill site. We facilitate all aspects of the construction process from excavations, sourcing of clay for lining, lining, construction (internal or outsourced), roads, storm water as well as contaminated and/or uncontaminated runoff system design.
Landfill gas is managed and monitored according to a specific site’s permit or license conditions. We can analyse and record relevant data regarding a site’s gas emissions and provide it to authorities. Subsequent monitoring and management of landfill gas systems on a site is also possible. This includes pipe installations if necessary.
