You can join our efforts. Our team of experts can set up the infrastructure for on-site segregation of your recyclables, as well as arrange collection and storage of materials. We can also provide off-site services including monthly reporting on waste and recycling audits.
Clients are advised on the best practices specifically relating to recycling and minimisation of waste. This is supported by a range of education and awareness initiatives. The Waste Group operates state of the art recycling processing plants like our Bon Accord Recycling Centre (BARC) for the processing and baling of recyclable products in Gauteng.
When advising clients on any recycling management solution, The Waste Group will always apply its 5R-principles, namely to Rethink, Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, and Remove.
The development of any solution for a client is based on the principle that recycling can be done at the source (point of waste origin) or after source (after being transported). Both have advantages and disadvantages that need to be understood in order to design and/or choose the best system for a client.
At its point of generation (on the premises of the client), waste is sorted into separate recycling containers OR split into two categories namely dry (recyclable) and wet (non-recyclable/food/organic) waste. Dry recyclables is then taken to our material recycling facility and wet waste is disposed to landfill or bio-digesters to be treated as sewage or composting.
Recyclables are picked out of the waste stream either on the landfill, at the recycling plant or scavenged from the waste bins by trolley operators, scavengers or hawkers.
The Waste Group owns three state of the art recycling processing plants in Gauteng for the processing and baling of recyclables. In other areas, third-party processors are used.
The three processing plants was established due to pressure on industry in terms of recycling compliance and the rapid deterioration of current landfill space. Semi-dirty waste from existing and new clients would be processed and dry recyclables are split into 16 categories. The purchasing and baling of clean, pre-sorted waste is also part of the process. The MRF at BARC can recycle between 20% and 75% of waste entering the Bon Accord Landfill, saving on space. It also serves as a processing and baling facility for clean recyclables received from industry and suppliers.
The plant can sort and treat up to 10 000 tonnes of semi-dirty waste per month through various cleaning and sorting machines as well as hand sorting. Up to 4 000 tonnes of recyclable materials are baled each month using a fully automated baling machine, producing export quality bales. Approximately 240 direct and 500 indirect jobs are created at the plant.
Recycling solutions aimed at the manufacturing and processing sectors. The Waste Group offers an on-site waste and recycling service where our staff split waste into wet and dry. This results in a system with low labour cost, high recovery rate of recyclables and low total waste management costs. Further splitting of recyclables is done off-site at our Materials Recycling Facilities (MRF’s). Clients have the option to sort recyclables themselves.
Shopping centres and malls have different tenants with different waste streams. The Waste Group offers an on site waste and recycling solution where Waste Group staff is tasked with splitting waste between wet (food from restaurants, for example) and dry waste (e.g. packaging material and other recyclables). This results in system with low labour cost, high recovery rate of recyclables and low total waste management costs. Further splitting of recyclables is done off-site at our Materials Recycling Facilities (MRF’s). Clients have the option to sort recyclables themselves.
Recycling at educational institutions is normally designed around free participation by students and incentivised by rebates, prizes, competitions. Recycling statistics can be made available to further drive such educational and awareness projects.
Recycling services can be provided at sports events, exhibits and shows. Cleaning services like litter picking can also be provided. The total cost of waste can be drastically lowered by providing the correct recycling containers for splitting at the source.
These vehicles are equipped with an on-board scale as well as data and printing capabilities, enabling them to act as fully functional recycling buy-back centres. They service regular clients on a fixed basis as well as ad-hoc clients with sufficient volumes of recyclables.
The cages can be supplied to clients where continuous recycling at the source takes place and is usually used in conjunction with our on-site waste management services.
Available for regular or once-off collection of bulk recyclables.
Most recyclables are accepted at these centres at Bon Accord, Mooiplaats Landfill and at Chloorkop. Clients can deliver waste in trolleys, small vehicles or with trailers. It will be weighed and be paid for.
